Since my background in Rock started with more of what you could call "softer Rock", I didn't fully appreciate Metallica until my late teenage years. I can't remember why I started listening to them more and more but who cares, I do not regret it one bit. Metallica is in my opinion the best Thrash Metal band and boasts so many great hits.

If you want to listen to more than these ten songs, check out my Playlists, you find all my Metallica songs in Playlist 25. For this Top List, I have a short description of why I like each song, but I primarily figure the songs will speak for themselves!
I hope you enjoy my top 10 favorite Metallica songs!

#10 Whiskey in the jar
I'm starting this list with a cover song. Whiskey In The Jar is a traditional Irish song, who's had many versions over the years, possibly the most famous by Thin Lizzy, however Metallica does a really good job, and their version is one of the very best!
#9 wherever I may Roam
This is the song on the list that I found the most recently. I had never heard this one until 2023, I somehow missed it. However, I instantly started to like it. It has a really cool vibe and "Metallica vibe" to it and made my top ten record fast!
#8 Master of puppets
This was the second Metallica song I heard and a favorite of an old friend. All these years later, it's still very solid and has one of the best intros of any Metallica song. The riffs are also very well made, this song could climb the list in the future.
#7 Am I Evil?
This one, Am I Evil?, was to me at first glance, a quite average Metallica song that didn't stand out. However, over the years it has grown on me a lot and I just absolutely love the lyrics, and the instruments are of course top notch too.
#6 fuel
Fuel is a song that was very hard to place, and it might very likely climb to top five in the future. It has such an amazing melody and tempo, and I always felt it has a small "power metal feel" to it. It's also criminally underrated YouTube views wise.
#5 One
The best part about this song is that it has such awesome variation. It starts nice and soft, has a more upbeat middle part and then just goes crazy in the end. The only reason it's not higher is that we overplayed it a bit in Guitar Hero III.
#4 Nothing else matters
This is the very first Metallica song that I heard and once I even knew how to play most of it on guitar. It's a bit overplayed by mainstream radio but I still value this song highly and it will probably always remain a top five song to me.
#3 The Four Horsemen
The Four Horsemen was for decades my favorite Metallica song and was overthrown just a few years back. I still love it of course and it features one of the best riffs ever made, at around the 2:30 mark into the song. Pure guitar perfection!
#2 for whom the bell tolls
It's hard to describe why I love this song so much, but I do. The intro is awesome, the melody and instruments are top notch and James Hetfield does one of his best performances. The lyrics are also top-notch. Simply an awesome song!
#1 enter Sandman
This is by far my favorite Metallica song these days as well as my all-time favorite Thrash Metal song from any of the big bands. I love the lyrics, the music, everything really. Even the video is fantastic for this one. Just listen and enjoy yourselves!
