Top 10 Dire Straits Songs

I was first introduced to Dire Straits at a young age and since then I have been a big fan. Mark Knopfler is an absolute musical genius and while I think he is phenomenal as a solo artist, I find Dire Straits even better. While the top five was an easy choice, the rest was hard, they have so many great songs beyond these that you got to hear.

#10 Romeo And Juliet

I have to admit it took some time for me to really 'understand' and appreciate this song but after hearing it many times I've come to really appreciate both the music and the lyrics and now I feel it's a worthy entry on this list.

#9 Heavy Fuel

This song will most likely climb a lot on the list in the future, it's one of the ones I listen to the most right now. I like everything about it but I have to give it extra credit for the music video with Randy Quaid, which I enjoy immensely.

#8 Lady Writer

I can't exactly explain what I mean, but I feel this has such a classic "Dire Straits vibe" to me, more than their average songs so to speak. It's one of those songs that always fit, regardless of the occasion and a worthy entry on this list.

#7 Twisting By The Pool

My taste in Rock is very wide, from modern metal to 1950's old school rock and this song really reminds me of the old Rock classics, of which I'm quite a big fan. I also really enjoy the laid-back lyrics; it's really a song to chill out with.

#6 Industrial Disease

Just short of my top five is Industrial Disease. It's a fantastic song with both great instruments and lyrics, but my top five is so beloved and hard to get into, I think neither this nor any other song will break into it any time soon.

#5 Calling Elvis

I am a huge Elvis Presley fan and any time someone mentions him they instantly catch my attention and interest. But this song is about more than that, it also has a fantastic melody to match the lyrics, all in all, it's a fantastic song.

#4 Money For Nothing

Picking the order of my top four was insanely hard. It's like asking a parent to chose their favorite child, it's really that tight. But eventually I had to decide an order, and this takes the fourth place but could be even first some day.

#3 Walk Of Life

The number three pick, Walk Of Life, was my favorite Dire Straits song for probably twenty years and is of course still a candidate for the top spot. It also has a great music video, that manages to enhance the song ever further.

#2 Brothers In Arms

This one is a bit calmer than most other Dire Straits songs but that is certainly nothing that holds it back, as it claims the number two spot on this list. It's such a beautiful song that I could listen to all day, every day. Simply superb!

#1 Sultans Of Swing

After a lot of deciding, I went with Sultans Of Swing for my number one spot. It's probably their most popular song and for good reason. It was the first song to surpass Walk Of Life and I just can't get enough of this awesome song.
